I'm not actually surprised they have these losses. Because some products are not "one size fits all" like... Office. Microsoft got the right idea with "Office" subscriptions. Word, Excel, and other essentials, are wrapped up into one "license." Most of these companies have ONE product. That being said, this SaaS business model is invading server hosting companies, and it's not a pretty sight. I'm a website owner, and I really do not like these "bill as you go" business model. It's basically SaaS, but for storage. Some companies have different business models for Hosting, but most of them actually use the storage size as a "license." Cloud hosting, AWS style businesses are losing brand loyalty, because these companies are charging per byte. For example, some companies let you rent the servers (that's what it is) via Gigabyte per hour. Some just let you rent the server, but charge Gigabyte per backup. In hours. Gaming is getting hit with the same thing, too. Many companies in gaming are using the SaaS model as "Gaming As A Service."
I see a industry-wide crash. Gaming, Software, Hosting, Cloud... Crash.
And sooon.
